Source: USA Today
After analyzing data from AAA, USA Today has discovered that the number of hotels going smoke-free has tripled in three years. About 2,300 lodgings prohibited smoking indoors in 2005; today, that figure is more than 8,300.
Major chains have gone smoke-free in recent years. Westin Hotels & Resorts became the first chain to prohibit all indoor smoking in its U.S. properties. Marriott's 2,500 U.S. hotels, Walt Disney, Gaylord, and Comfort Suites also are smoke-free. California has 1,040 non-smoking lodgings, more than any other state. Florida is next in line with 444, followed by Texas with 408.
